Roanoke Canal Trail and Museum
Roanoke Rapids and Weldon, NC
We designed a trail master plan and canal history museum site plan for the 19th century Roanoke Canal (National Register of Historic Places, 1976). The trail plan included adapting an old canal towpath to incorporate existing features such as a stone aqueduct. The trail follows the Roanoke River for 9 miles from the city of Roanoke Rapids to the rapids at Weldon. The museum site plan was designed for adaptive reuse of a former power plant and canal lock.
