NC Museum of Natural Sciences: Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife and Learning
Raleigh, NC
This 38-acre site, a former cow pasture, is at the fringe of suburban Raleigh. The museum wanted to create a place for visitors and school groups to appreciate natural resources and ecological diversity. Included are constructed wetlands, a wildlife sanctuary pond, interpretive trails, and prairie development and management by the museum. Phase 1 included siting a ‘green building’ outdoor classroom/field station at the edge of the woods and prairie.
